TCU head coach Gary Patterson has stated that quarterback Trevone Boykin will not start and is unlikely to play in Saturday's huge game against the Oklahoma Sooners, according to Jake Trotter of ESPN.

The Horned Frogs quarterback injured his ankle last week in TCU's victory over Kansas 23-17. The Horned Frogs are 9-1 on the season, but without Boykin on the field, the team struggled to get the win over a winless Jayhawks team. Redshirt freshman Foster Sawyer will get the start in Boykin's absence, and the Horned Frogs face a red hot Sooners team.

Boykin was having an incredible season this year and had thrown for 3,427 yards with 29 touchdowns to nine interceptions. Foster saw some action last week against the Jayhawks after Boykin's injury, and he struggled completing only one for seven passing but had a touchdown. The Horned Frogs will also be without star wide receiver Josh Doctson, who is out for the season with a wrist injury but could return for a bowl game.

The Horned Frogs face a tough task against the Sooners, as they haven't lost since Oct. 10 to Texas. Outside of their one upset loss to Texas, the Sooners have been rolling and just handed the Baylor Bears their first loss of the season. Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield has turned into a Heisman candidate down the stretch of this season and has thrown 10 touchdowns to one interception in Oklahoma's last three games.

Patterson will need his freshman quarterback to step up Saturday in the absence of Boykin, but it will be interesting to see if the Boykin gets inserted in the game if the Horned Frogs fall behind early. TCU looks to be fighting an uphill battle without two of their top offensive weapons, and they face a difficult challenge against a streaking Sooners team.
