Houston Texans quarterback Brian Hoyer is reportedly unlikely to play this weekend against the New York Jets due to a concussion he suffered Monday night against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

There is hope that Hoyer will be able to play this week, as head coach Bill O'Brien has not ruled his starting quarterback out for this weekend's game, according to NFL reporter Conor Orr. Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater suffered a concussion against the St. Louis Rams, but he was cleared from concussion protocol within the week and was able to face the Oakland Raiders this past Sunday.

Backup quarterback T.J. Yates will take first-team reps this week and is likely preparing as the starter for this week's upcoming game. Yates led the game-winning drive, throwing a fourth quarter touchdown pass to DeAndre Hopkins. The Texans gave the Bengals their first loss of the season, and head coach Bill O'Brien will look to keep momentum going against the Jets this upcoming weekend.

Hoyer has played well since earning himself the starting position and has thrown for 1,704 yards on the season. The Texans quarterback has thrown 13 touchdowns to four interceptions this season, and ball security is a big concern for Houston. The Texans have the 12th best defense in the NFL in terms of yards allowed per game, and their defense is only getting better as it gets deeper into the season.

In the past two games, Houston hasn't let opponents score more than six points, and one of those teams was an undefeated Bengals team. The Texans are currently tied in first place in the AFC South and will need their defense to step up this week if Hoyer can't play. The Texans are on a short week after playing Monday night, and it looks to be a defensive showdown between the Jets and Houston this Sunday.
