Since the New York Giants lost wide receiver Victor Cruz for the season when he announced he would need to undergo season-ending calf surgery, the team is reportedly re-signing wide receiver Hakeem Nicks, according to Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports.

The Giants selected Nicks as their first round pick in 2009 and he had some productive seasons, including two 1,000 plus yard receiving seasons in 2010-11. He won a Super Bowl with the Giants and quarterback Eli Manning in 2011, and head coach Tom Coughlin will see if the two can find a rhythm together again. However, the wide receiver hasn't played since last season with the Indianapolis Colts when he recorded 38 receptions for 405 yards.

Nicks, 27, will probably have another chance to prove himself on the field this season. He reportedly worked out for the Giants back in September, but after losing Cruz for the season, the organization likely felt it was necessary to bring in another weapon for Manning. Wide receiver Dwayne Harris has filled the slot position nicely during Cruz's absence, catching 25 passes for 304 yards while scoring four touchdowns.

It will be interesting to see how the Giants implement Nicks in their offensive game plan, but he will have time, as the Giants don't play again until Nov. 29 against the Washington Redskins. The Giants, who sit a half game ahead in first place in the NFC East, hope the addition of Nicks will elevate their offense to another level.
