We’ve met (or been reintroduced to) a lot of interesting characters on our trip to Wonderland—a White Rabbit who’s always on time but can’t be trusted, a red-eyed cat who has an appetite for humans and a big bad evil queen who isn’t so big and bad.

Among the characters we’ve met is the diabolical Jafar (Naveen Andrews) who is apparently the most powerful villain in the show. Before you rush to judgment about Jafar, the OUATW co-creator Adam Horowitz said the show’s bad guy isn’t necessarily a villain because he gets a kick out of it.

"His actions come out of a deep pain that we plan to reveal,” Horowitz explained to TVGuide.com. “And to soothe that pain he's going to have to change the laws of magic, [which] will affect everyone in Wonderland."

At the end of the first episode, we found out that Jafar actually kept Cyrus (Peter Gadiot) from falling to his death. Now he’s keeping the genie locked up until Alice (Sophie Lowe) makes her three wishes and he finds Cyrus’ bottle.

In “Aladdin”, Jafar was attempting to get the genie’s power for himself, eventually becoming an ultimate monster genie. Is it possible that he will attempt to do something similar in the ABC drama?

According to ABC.com, during the next episode we’ll get a glimpse into how Alice and Cyrus fell in love. You can get a look at some of the pictures from the episode here.

“Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” airs Thursdays at 8/7c on ABC.
