Carrie Fisher will return to play the iconic character of Leia in the upcoming "Star Wars" film "The Force Awakens," but she will not be known as Princess Leia anymore. The film's director, J.J. Abrams, revealed that Leia has been given the title of "General" in the film.

"She's referred to as General," said Abrams, according to Entertainment Weekly. "But ... there's a moment in the movie where a character sort of slips and calls her 'Princess.'"

General Leia's appearance has been brief in the four trailers out so far, but we've seen a photo of the former princess in the middle of a military base, locked in a tight embrace with Han Solo (Harrison Ford), according to the Daily Mail.

"The stakes are pretty high in the story for her, so there's not much goofing around where Leia's concerned," Abrams said. "But it felt historic to have her, especially with Harrison, back in scenes together. I can only imagine the baggage that they bring to it, I'm just a fan who loves this stuff, but they've been living with it - and living in it - since '77."

When asked about how General Leia handles things in the film, "Not easily," replied the veteran actress. She then went on to describe her character as "solitary. Under a lot of pressure. Committed as ever to her cause, but I would imagine feeling somewhat defeated, tired, and pissed," she said before dishing out some advice to young fans who look up to her as a role model. "Never give up," she added.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is slated to hit theaters on Dec. 18.
