Apple Watch sales hit almost 7 million, if a report by an independent analyst company called Canalys is to be believed. The figure, which came six months after its official release, is astonishing because it amounts to more than the sales of rival smartwatches combined.

"After experiencing significant supply chain constraints early on, Apple managed to overcome its production struggles with the Apple Watch and is building momentum going into Q4," Daniel Matte, an analyst at Canalys, told The Telegraph. "Shipments are steadily increasing as it has greatly expanded the Watch's channel footprint internationally."

Apple reportedly sold 3 million smartwatches in the most recent quarter alone, while rivals such as Pebble could only eke out 200,000 devices, Techno Buffalo reported. Samsung also saw a drop in its previous Gear smartwatch, but this is attributed to the market's anticipation for the new Samsung Gear S2.

The Apple Watch is also expected to bring in more cash during the holiday season, as consumers tend to spend heavily. But there are those who argue that the device could face intense competition from other wearables. For instance, aside from Samsung's new circular device, high-end watchmakers such as Fossil and Tag Heuer are also going to release their first smartwatches in the latter part of 2015, according to CNET.

To address the onslaught of competition, Apple has introduced new colors and band styles to the Apple Watch. In addition, the company has also offered a $50 discount if it is purchased with an iPhone, as HNGN previously reported.
