Facebook has announced that it has its eyes set on creating a "teleporter" by 2025.

The technology won't actually teleport you into any place you desire, but the company plans on building a device that offers such a great virtual reality medium that it would feel like you have teleported to another place.

Facebook has been playing with virtual reality ever since it purchased Oculus VR in March 2014.

"Facebook wants to build a device that allows you to be anywhere you want, with anyone, regardless of geographic boundaries," Facebook chief technical officer Mike Schroepfer said at a press event, according to Tech Times.

The plan faces serious challenges before it could actually be a reality. One of the challenges is how Facebook plans to make virtual reality appear real. This means they have to figure out how users could see their own hands and feet when moving in the virtual world, as well as figure out a way to let people meet in the virtual world, the Daily Mail reported.

To start this endeavor, Oculus has teamed up with Surreal Vision to create a technology that would stream the actual environment of an individual into virtual reality. This team up is laying the foundation for Facebook's plan, but it still has a long way to go, Mashable reported.
