Selena Gomez is in final negotiations to executive produce a miniseries for Netflix based on the popular young adult novel "13 Reasons Why," according to Variety. The 23-year-old singer and actress is not attached to star in the 13-episode project.

"13 Reasons Why," written by Jay Asher, tells the story of a shy teenager named Clay who one day receives a box full of cassette tapes from a girl named Hannah who recently committed suicide, reported the New York Daily News. On the tapes, which are mailed with instructions to pass the tapes along to 12 of her peers that played a part in her decision to end her life, Hannah gives the 13 reasons why she took her own life.

This will be the first time the actress has executive produced a project since she served as an EP for Disney Channel's "Wizards of Waverly Place" TV movie. Mandy Teefey, Kristel Laiblin and Anonymous Content will also executive produce the miniseries.

The "Good For You" singer has been keeping herself busy lately with the release of her No. 1 album "Revival" and her multiple upcoming movie projects. Gomez recently wrapped four different films, according to Deadline, including "The Big Short" (with Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling and Christian Bale) and Seth Rogen's "Neighbors 2."

No premiere date for the project has been announced.
