San Diego Chargers running back Melvin Gordon will likely be held out Sunday against the Oakland Raiders, according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport.

Gordon suffered an ankle injury early against the Green Bay Packers but was able to fight through the injury.  The rookie running back struggled against the Packers and only rushed for 29 yards and fumbled twice.

Gordon was drafted to be the Chargers lead running back, but he has yet to see over 16 carries a game and the fumbles are probably concerning the coaching staff. The 15th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft had injured his ankle earlier in preseason, which kept him out of a game, and fans are hoping he doesn't have serious ankle issues.

Gordon has yet to see the endzone for the Chargers this season. His biggest game came in week two against the Bengals when he rushed for 88 yards. Head coach Mike McCoy probably wants more out of his first round draft pick, but the organization seems to be playing it safe and letting him get back to a 100 percent before returning to the field.

Without Gordon, the Chargers will look to Danny Woodhead and Branden Oliver to step up. Oliver has 55 yards rushing and 57 yards receiving this season. Woodhead has 162 rushing yards this season and has scored two touchdowns. Woodhead has also caught 26 passes for 332 yards this season. Both Woodhead and Oliver are versatile backs that can both catch and run with this ball. The Chargers are 2-4 and face an AFC West rival in the Raiders on Sunday and will need big play from surrounding players on offense without Gordon.
