"The Revenant" star Leonardo DiCaprio opened up about some of the disgusting things he had to do while filming the movie, including sleeping inside animal carcasses and eating bison liver.

The actor told Yahoo! that the shoot for the Alejandro G. Inarritu-helmed project involved "some of the most difficult things" he had to do in his entire career.

"I can name 30 or 40 sequences that were some of the most difficult things I've ever had to do," said DiCaprio, according to Yahoo!. "Whether it's going in and out of frozen rivers or sleeping in animal carcasses or what I ate on set. [I was] enduring freezing cold and possible hypothermia constantly."

"I certainly don't eat raw bison liver on a regular basis," he continued. "When you see the movie, you'll see my reaction to it because Alejandro kept it in. It says it all. It was an instinctive reaction."

In "The Revenant," DiCaprio plays the role of a 19th-century frontiersman, who after suffering a violent bear attack, sets off on a journey through the freezing wilderness to seek revenge from the man who left him for dead, Tom Hardy, according to Vanity Fair.

DiCaprio said his character's encounter with the bear in the film required some cinematic magic, but wasn't easy to accomplish.

"I'm not going to give any specifics on how we did it - you'll figure it out on your own," the actor said. "But I will tell you it involved cables, it involved me flying around the forest, and it involved a tremendous amount of rehearsal. And it was pretty agonizing to do."

Despite the hardships the "Wolf of Wall Street" actor had to go through for the role, DiCaprio said he has no regrets with his decision to take on the project.

"The truth is that I knew what I was getting into," said DiCaprio. "This was a film that had been floating around for quite some time, but nobody was crazy enough to really take this on, simply because of the logistics of where we needed to shoot and the amount of work and rehearsal that would have to be done to achieve Alejandro and [cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki's] vision."

"The Revenant," is slated to hit theaters on Dec. 25. Watch DiCaprio's performance in the film's trailer below:
