Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese will team up for a film adaptation of Erik Larson's book "The Devil In The White City: Murder, Magic and Madness At The Fair That Changed America."

Billy Ray, whose credits include "The Hunger Games" and "Captain Phillips" is writing the script, and DiCaprio will portray Dr. H. H. Holmes - one of the most prolific serial killers in Chicago history, according to Deadline.

The book follows the true story of Holmes, the architect of Chicago's 1893 World's Fair and a serial killer who used the fair as a setting to commit his murders. He ultimately admitted to murdering 27 people, but might have killed as many as 200, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Five studios, including Universal and Fox, were contending for the adaptation until Paramount closed a deal that has DiCaprio in the lead role with Scorsese directing. Appian Way's DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson will produce along with Stacey Sher, Scorsese and Emma Tillinger Koskoff.

DiCaprio and Scorsese last worked together on Scorsese's biggest hit "The Wolf of Wall Street," for which both also earned Oscar nominations. Their other films include "Gangs Of New York," "The Aviator," "The Departed" and "Shutter Island."
