Though she may not be a fan of twerking, Demi Lovato will always defend her fellow former Disney queen Miley Cyrus. In a recent interview with Fox31's "Everyday," the star gave her opinion on the public's perception of the "We Can't Stop" singer, and didn't seem too happy to be asked about her controversial friend.

As the "Everyday" hosts brought up the pressure many stars have to be "scandalous," specifically what "Miley and the like" are doing, Lovato's smile instantly faded.

"I've said this a million times, I know Britney [Spears] and Miley very well," said the star. "Miley has been one of my best friends growing up and so I'm happy for her. She's doing what she wants to do and this is her time to break out and figure out what she wants to do in her career and image and everything. I'm happy seeing her happy because I love her so much and she doesn't care what people think, nor should she."

This isn't the first time Lovato has defended Cyrus. Back in 2010, the "Heart Attack" singer got pretty snappy when a red carpet interviewer from Access Hollywood brought up how Miley Cyrus was trying to break away from her "Hannah Montana" image, cutting in with, "She's my best friend so, you better watch out! I think that she looks stunning and I will defend her 100 percent for the rest of my life."

Though the two may no longer be as close as they once were back when Lovato starred on Disney's "Sonny With a Chance" and Cyrus was the infamous teen sensation "Hanna Montana", they've stayed on good terms, following and occasionally tweeting each other with support and positive messages.

Cyrus's new image has created controversy for more reasons than one, from her racy new photoshoot with porn photographer Terry Richardson, to the accusations from critics that she's been appropriating black culture for shock value and using black women and little people as props, as well as her rapid departure from a teen pop star to a foul-mouthed and headstrong young star.

Despite all of the criticism, Cyrus seems unbothered, using the constant press to her advantage as she prepares for the release of her new album, "Bangerz," her first musical effort outside of Disney's Hollywood Records label.
