A San Francisco man was hit on the head with a giant pine cone that caused injury that required multiple surgeries, and is now suing for $5 million, according to the Guardian.

Sean Mace, a U.S. Navy veteran, was supposedly relaxing under a pine tree when all of a sudden he was struck on the head by a falling 16-pound pine cone that crushed his skull.

His attorney, Scott Johnson, said that the falling pine cone caused "irreversible brain injury" as well as multiple brain surgeries, according to ABC News.

"This guy has an irreversible brain injury and he's only in his mid-50s," said Johnson. "He's had two surgeries already and he is going to need a third."

Mace was injured in the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, and has named the park in his suit. He is also suing the National Park Service, U.S. Government and Department of the Interior.

The trees responsible are not native to the area and were allegedly planted by the park staff. The suit says that the park failed to post any signs that would warn park goers and that it was "violating numerous park policies requiring the removal of exotic species that create safety hazards," according to according to SF Gate.
