Save the Koala Day! It's a day to celebrate the furry tree-hugging adorable little marsupials, but did you know they are also in danger? Many Aussies don't even know, according to Save the Koala.

Some areas still cull off koalas, with another cull planned next week. The Victorian government plans a relocation of koalas, with dependent joeys going into zoos, sick koalas euthanized and birth control for female koalas in the region. This has Australian Koala Foundation (AKF) Chief Executive Deborah Tabart pretty upset with Victorian Environment Minister, Lisa Neville.

'Ms. Neville has said there have been consultations with a panel of animal welfare and ecological experts, and we would like to know whose advice has been sought.

The koalas are not yet an endangered species, says the National Geographic Channel, but could become one with the rapidly increasing loss of their habitat. They need the trees for both food and habitat; the trees shelter the little guys from predators and weather. With the rate of clearing the trees for new housing, the koala's survival is in jeopardy.

There is also an infection sweeping through the population, according to the Animal Rescue Site, leaving approximately 40 percent of females infertile.

To help during SAVE THE KOALAS 2015, donate online to a reputable non-profit such as Save the Koalas or Fauna Rescue of South Australia. And spread the word about the cutest animals on the planet. Get on your social media and let others know the dangers the koalas encounter. Koalas aren't just cute faces, they are struggling in a growing society that is taking over their habitats.
