Maryland's head football coach Randy Edsall has been reportedly fired, according to Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman.

Maryland will reportedly make offensive coordinator Mike Locksley the new interim head coach, according to Feldman. Edsall has been on a consistent hot seat as the Terrapins head coach, and prior to this weeks game with Ohio State, reports of his dismal were due to come. Edsall had just signed a three-year extension with the program in June, but his time was cut short after a 2-4 start.

After losing to the top ranked Buckeyes this past Saturday 49-28, the program likely had come to their decision that it was time to part ways with Edsall.

Edsall was brought in after taking UConn's football program to a Fiesta Bowl in 2010, and Maryland was hoping for the same turn around for their program. The move did not work out as planned, as Edsall had a 22-33 record in five seasons as the Terrapins head coach.

The numbers did not boast well for Edsall, as the program was winless in two bowl games and was 0-11 against ranked opponents. With Big Ten programs like Michigan turning it around with new head coach Jim Harbaugh, Maryland is likely tired of waiting for the program to turn around.

Edsall's best record at Maryland was 7-6, and the University likely wants more production given the contract extension he was given. It will be interesting to follow where Maryland searches for their next head coach, as the Big Ten has developed into one of the best conferences in college football.
