Transgender bathrooms are becoming a more common occurrence, but administrators at the University of Toronto were shocked to find out their neutrality backfired with some students peering in on their naked colleagues, according to The Huffington Post Canada.

Incidents of voyeurism were reported in the gender neutral bathrooms of the Whitney Hall co-ed student residence.

Men were reported holding cell phones over the shower stalls to record women as they showered, MRCTV reported.

The gender-neutral bathrooms have since been closed, but university officials say that the closure is only temporary.

"There has been no change to the designation of gender-neutral washrooms in the other University College Residences or elsewhere on campus as a result of these incidents," they said.

Instead, the university is setting aside certain bathrooms to be traditionally for women and men only until the bathrooms are supposedly reopened.

"Given the serious nature of these incidents and the impact on directly affected students, we made the decision to specifically designate some washrooms in Whitney Hall for those who identify as men and those who identify as women," said Melinda Scott, dean of students at University of Toronto.

More than 50 percent of the restrooms in White Hall are still gender-neutral, according to the Daily Wire.
