Over the summer, rumors began to spread about the Spice Girls reuniting for a 20th anniversary tour in 2016. The latest gossip is that the jaunt will be a co-headlining bill with fellow ’90s pop superstars Backstreet Boys!

“The Spice Girls tour has been this idea bouncing around for the past year and a half, and it’s something we’re still talking about,” revealed Backstreet Boy A.J. McLean in an Oct. 6 interview with Rolling Stone.

This would be a very smart move, according to the Daily Star. “[The Spice Girls] were big, but their success didn’t last quite as long, so teaming with another act is a way of booking bigger venues,” an insider told the publication.

If a 2016 tour comes to fruition, don’t expect Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) to be a part of it. “She is far too busy running her fashion brand and looking after her family to get back on a stage,” a source told the Sun over the summer. “Victoria wishes the girls the best of luck.”

However, during a Sept. 15 interview on “The Meredith Vieira Show,” Mel B (Scary Spice) said: “Nothing has been announced. Nothing is official. Yes, we are in talks because it is our 20th anniversary, and I want something to happen.” Watch the clip below to see what else Scary had to say about a potential reunion.

The Spice Girls broke onto the music scene in 1996 with the smash hit “Wannabe,” and quickly became one of the best-selling girl groups of all time. In addition to Beckham and Mel B, the group consists of Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice), Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice) and Emma Bunton (Baby Spice).

Meanwhile, the Backstreet Boys — McLean, Nick Carter (who is currently competing on “Dancing with the Stars”), Brian Littrell, Kevin Richardson and Howie Dorough — have remained sporadically active since bursting onto the charts in 1995. The quintet will head into the recording studio next week to start work on their ninth studio album. “We're working with a new producer, Jay Cash, who wrote ‘Sugar’ for Maroon 5,” McLean told Rolling Stone. “This is just the beginning phase, but we're hoping to have the album done before our cruise in May.”
