Burger King has launched a new spooky version of one of its most popular menu items, the Halloween Whopper, sporting black buns with special smoky black pepper sauce cooked right into the bun, according to USA Today.

Just in time for Halloween, the black bun Whopper has a very intense look with A1 sauce accompanying the classic burger's flavors.

The idea came about after Japan branches began serving the Whopper with a black bun. Patrons of the American chain wanted to try the various flavors served around the world, so B.K. executives decided that Halloween was the perfect opportunity to introduce something new, according to MSN.

"Our U.S. guests have been extremely curious about the bun flavors they've seen introduced in Japan and other countries, so we saw the opportunity to bring them an equally unique experience," said Chief Marketing Officer Eric Hirschhorn.

People have taken to Twitter and other social media giving their takes on the Halloween Whopper.

Some are entranced by the flavor and appearance of the seasonal special. Others are totally put off, saying that the burger looks too unappetizing.

However, most agree that the American version of the black bun burger pales in comparison to Japan's premium Kuro burger, complete with bamboo coal cheese and squid ink ketchup, according to Maxim.
