An AFC personnel director said that Detroit Lions rookie running back Ameer Abdullah looks like a guy who could be an every-down NFL running back, according to Fox Sports' Ross Jones.

Abdullah had a big first game against the San Diego Chargers, rushing for 50 yards and a touchdown. Since then he's only seen 14 carries in two games, but that could change soon, especially if running back Joique Bell doesn't improve.

Bell is listed as the Lions number one back, but through three games this season he has averaged just 1.1 yards per carry. The Lions haven't given up on Bell yet, but he will likely need to turn it around soon.

"Not quite where he used to be - where he was last year," said head coach Jim Caldwell via Michigan Live. "We think he'll get there."

If Bell can't get back to how he played last season, look for Theo Riddick and Abdullah to take over. Abdullah is part of a great rookie running back class that includes players like T.J. Yeldon, Todd Gurley, Melvin Gordon, Karlos William, and Matt Jones.

"Sometimes people like to try to devalue the position, but this class, we came in, I know a couple of my friends who are in this class said we want to make this class special. We want to make this class a class who can make the running back position kind of come back to life," said Abdullah, via the Detroit Free Press.

Abdullah looks quick and explosive since entering the league, according to an AFC personnel director. The second round draft pick could see more carries as the season goes on, especially if Bell is not producing. The winless Lions have a tough game this weekend against Seattle, but it will be interesting to see how many carries Abdullah gets against the Seahawks defense.
