Fans of AMC's "The Walking Dead" are undoubtedly excited for the upcoming sixth season of the smash hit show. Season five left audiences with so many questions: How will the newly reunited Rick and Morgan get along? How will Rick's leadership be absorbed by the Alexandrians? Will Rick and Jesse enjoy a romantic fling now that her pesky husband has been dealt with (by Rick)? Which fan-favorite characters are headed for the great beyond?

But, perhaps the most burning question, especially from loyal comic book readers, has been if the infamous Negan will make an appearance in season six.

For those of you that don't know, Negan is arguably the most infamous of all the "Walking Dead" villains from the comic book. He is a psychopath who affectionately named his barbwire wrapped baseball bat Lucille. He leads a group known as the Saviors who cause death and destruction to everything in their path. Negan is also responsible for the death of a MAJOR character in the comic book.

So should fans of the TV series brace themselves for his arrival this year?

"It's absolutely a possibility," showrunner Scott M. Gimple told Entertainment Weekly. "And when I say it's a possibility, we have a plan in place, but there's a couple variables for that plan that we're deciding about. It really depends on a few fators as we move into setting up the last bit of the season story-wise."

Based on Gimple's comments, it sounds more likely than not that Negan will be popping up. In fact, the show may have already cast the character for a second-half introduction in "24" alum Xander Berkeley.

When last we left off in season five of "The Walking Dead," a mysterious and vicious group known as the Wolves were emerging as a looming threat. They were the ones who were mutilating bodies with their signature "W," luring unsuspecting victims into Walker traps and even attacked Morgan. Gimple and creator Robert Kirkman haven't been shy about molding different comic book storylines and characters into one coherent threat in the show. Is it possible that they did the same with Negan and put him in charge of the Wolves?

Regardless, fans of the series should expect to see this Big Bad sooner rather than later.

Season six of "The Walking Dead" will return on Oct. 11.
