London Fashion Week begins again this year as New York Fashion Week wraps up. With so much fashion news cropping up on social media accounts, news sites and television during this season, it's no doubt fashion and style form part of society's daily activities. Even if you're not into the trendy stuff, you might have wondered how some of these names and labels are pronounced.

In fashion, the French brand Lanvin is the most mispronounced brand name for the last few decades, while Hermès is most incorrectly said by the Brits, according to Daily Mail.

"Hermès is the one brand which if you're not careful, can really show you up. Amazingly, some people pronounce it exactly as it's written which is a real 'no no', but there's a further subtlety to the word too," said Ines da Silva, a fashion adviser from Debrett in the U.K.

"Even if you break the word in two, as you should do, it should finish with an 'ess' sound and not a soft 'ez.' This is something that a lot of people in Anglo-Saxon countries are not aware of," she added.

"I find that people are always most scared and timid to pronounce a French designer's name," said Cristina Haines of Vestiaire Collective, a luxury shopping site, via Four Seasons Magazine. "They will start to say it softly, in a whisper, almost as if there is a question mark after the name: 'Her . . . mes?'"
