Police have arrested a man who allegedly attempted to steal a jet after crashing through a security gate at a Texas airport Thursday.

The incident occurred around noon, when the unnamed man drove through the gates at Waco Regional Airport and onto the tarmac, reported Fox News. Once there, he made his way towards a parked Learjet, began removing the tire chocks and attempted to enter the aircraft.

An off-duty officer caught wind of the plot and approached the man, who was reportedly armed with a stick. Police say that since the man was possibly high on drugs, the officer's attempts to taze the suspect had no effect. Texas Aero employees who witnessed the event, rushed to assist the officer, and were able to restrain the suspect, according to the New York Daily News.

Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton revealed that the suspect, whose name will be made public once he is booked in jail, is someone who is known to local authorities and has a history of mental illness. He was taken to a hospital for an evaluation, after the arrest.

Once cleared he will be charged with criminal trespass, attempted theft, criminal mischief and resisting arrest, according to USA Today.

Police notified the FBI and TSA, who may also file additional charges against the suspect.
