Political pundit and author Ann Coulter took some heat on Thursday for some heated comments she made via Twitter during the second GOP Republican debate.

Coulter fired off what many are saying is an anti-Semitic comment during the GOP debate, according to Inquisitr. Her obscenity-laced tweet was one of several direct remarks she made about the evening's proceedings.

"How many f--king Jews do these people think there are in the United States?" Coulter said, censoring her own tweet before posting.

The tweet was "ugly, spiteful and borderline anti-Semitic," Anti-Defamation League National Director Jonathan Greenblatt said in a statement.

Coulter has more than 600,000 followers on Twitter, according to USA Today. The outrage over her tweets sparked a social media debate, with defenders of her viewpoint using the hashtag #IStandWithAnn.

"Her tweets give fodder to those who buy into the anti-Semitic notions that Jews 'control' the U.S. government, weird disproportionate power in politics, and are more loyal to Israel than to their own country. All decent Americans should reject Ms. Coulter's rhetoric as simply beyond the pale," Greenblatt said, according to The Washington Times.

Coulter fired back at some of her critics on Twitter, saying her comments are more anti-Republican than anti-Semitic. In an interview with The Daily Beast, she further clarified her tweets. "I'm accusing Republicans of thinking the Jews have so much power. They're the ones who are comedically acting out this play where Jews control everything," she said, according to The Daily Beast.

"My point was this whole culture of virtue-signaling where debates are about nothing. Look, Republicans all agree 100 percent that we are pro-Israel, pro-Life, pro-gun. So why do we spend so much time on these issues?  It's just pandering, so who are they pandering to?" Coulter said.
