Naomi Campbell joined the #FreeTheNipple campaign on Wednesday, posting a topless photo of herself to Instagram. But like others before her, the social network promptly removed the photo uploaded to celebrate the female body.

Campbell posted a black and white topless image from her upcoming two-volume book of nude portraits by photographer Paolo Riversi. Garage magazine also featured the photo for a preview of the new book published by Taschen.

The image remains up on her Twitter and is captioned with the hashtag #freethenipple.

Instagram takes a hardline against nudity of almost every kind (except post-masectomy scarring and women breastfeeding) by its users and states in the Community Guidelines:

"We know that there are times when people might want to share nude images that are artistic or creative in nature, but for a variety of reasons, we don't allow nudity on Instagram...It also includes some photos of female nipples, but photos of post-masectomy scarring and women actively breastfeeding are allowed. Nudity in photos of paintings and sculptures is OK, too."

This rule has caused the social network to take down topless photos captioned with #FreeTheNipple by famous celebrities such as Chelsea Handler, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna and Chrissy Teigen. Campbell has not publicly responded to Instagram removing her photo.
