From Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, and Jaclyn Smith in the iconic 1970's TV show to Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu in the hit 2000 movie, "Charlie's Angels" have been done well. It will be hard to reboot the "Angels," but it looks like Sony is going to give it a try.

Sony has announced that they will be rebooting the popular francise about the three attractive private detectives, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

This time, "The Hunger Games" actress Elizabeth Banks will be directing the film. Banks' husband Max Handelman will be producing the film alongside his wife, while a writer is still in the works.

The 2000 film was directed by McG and earned more than $264 million worldwide, according to International Business Times. They attempted a sequel in 2003 with "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle," but that didn't do as well as the first.

An attempt was made at rebooting the TV show in 2011 as well, but that bombed and was cancelled after just four episodes.

This will be the second directing gig for Banks as she made her directorial debut this past year with the hit summer film "Pitch Perfect 2," according to Deadline. She also is set to direct and develop Universal's movie adaptation for the young adult novel "Red Queen," which is being written by "Breaking Bad's" Gennifer Hutchison.
