"Pitch Perfect 2" is one step closer to happening. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Elizabeth Banks has been signed on to direct the movie. This will be Bank's directorial debut.

"Elizabeth originated the idea for 'Pitch Perfect' and was instrumental in making the first film such a huge success," Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley told THR. "She brings an enormous amount of energy and experience to everything she works on, and we're thrilled that she is making her feature directorial debut on 'Pitch Perfect 2.'"

The 39-year-old actress who produced and co-starred in the original "Pitch Perfect" will reprise her role as Gail, a commentator for the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella. Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are also expected to appear in the musical comedy sequel.

There were also rumors that Demi Lovato would star in the film but the rumor has not been confirmed. The first "Pitch Perfect," released in 2012, centered on a college freshman student (Kendrick) who joins an a cappella group called the Bellas. Kendrick's character, Beca, helps the all-girl group modernize their musical selections and leads them to finals. The film also starred Brittany Snow and Skylar Astin.

"Pitch Perfect" wasn't expected to be a huge success but the film grossed $115 million at the box office, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The first film was directed by Jason Moore. According to THR, Banks' husband, producer Max Handelman, and screenwriter Kay Cannon are both reportedly on board to do a sequel.
