Lionel Richie announced Wednesday morning he will be taking his talents to Las Vegas! The Grammy award-winning artist said he will hold a mini residency at the AXIS at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino starting next year.

On "Today," the iconic singer's 2016 residency will run in two separate parts — April to May and September to October. Richie said he was excited for the Las Vegas run because it gives him the opportunity to do, basically, anything he wants on stage.

"Every imaginable thing that you want to do for a show, you can now do it because there is nothing you have to move around," said Richie. "You don't have to play around anymore. All the ideas I want to put on the stage, any hydraulics, anything you want to do it's there."

Richie also said he plans to play all his hit songs for the Las Vegas audience, even those from his days in the Commodores.

"It's so tough because there are the die-hards, the Commodores people. You got to play 'Brick House' and 'Easy (Like Sunday Morning)' and then you get to 'Dancing on the Ceiling' and 'All Night Long.' But the crowd that sings the loudest is on 'Hello,'" said Richie.

The singer explained that while he loves touring the world, he likes to stay close to his family and the residency grants him that opportunity.

"I remember when playing Vegas was cool, when Frank [Sinatra] and Sammy [Davis, Jr.] were there. Then it was a place for the end of your career, and now it's back," Richie told USA Today.

Richie joins other headlining Las Vegas acts like Celine Dion, Rod Stewart, Mariah Carey and Britney Spears (who announced she's extended her residency for another two years).
