After her year-long hiatus, Celine Dion has returned to the Las Vegas stage.

Last summer, Dion, 47, took a break from her Vegas residency at Caesars Palace so she could care for her 74-year-old husband Rene Angelil who was diagnosed with throat cancer. On Thursday night, she returned to the Vegas stage with an emotional show, according to People.

"Thank you for all your love," she tweeted following the show. "Tonight was not a new day, tonight was not really a new show. Tonight was a new beginning."

Prior to taking the stage, Dion explained that it was her family that convinced her to come back. "So my three children and my wonderful husband wanted me to be here," she said at a pre-show press conference, according to ABC News. "Because I'm not quite sure if I wanted to be here tonight."

"I'm trying really hard to show my children that sickness and things happen in life," she told Us Weekly at the pre-show conference. "You cannot be crying and be depressed and consistently talk about, 'Oh my God.' Unfortunately there's a lot of people struggling with battles. When you have family around I think it helps tremendously."

The show went on to be an emotional one as she performed for almost two hours. The set had changed a little since her last show, but she sang some of her love songs with more emotion than ever in light of her husband's illness.

"I have been singing them for so long," she said. "And now, 'Power of Love' and 'Because You Loved Me' and 'Incredible' and all - I sang them, but now I mean it." At one point in the show, she even shouted "I love you, Rene!" to her husband, who was watching the show from a private video feed.

"My love, we love you," she continued to say to the cameras for her husband. "Lots of strength tonight. Promise me something. Just enjoy. Just enjoy. Just let it go. We love you."
