The community of Savannah State University is in mourning after a shooting that has left one of its students dead.

SSU junior Christopher Starks was allegedly shot during an altercation late Thursday night at the student union, school spokeswoman Loretta Heyward said, reported Reuters. After the shooting, he was taken to a local hospital for treatment where he later succumbed to his wounds.

"Mr. Starks was the only individual transported to a medical facility following the incident," Heyward said in an emailed statement.

Starks was an aspiring rapper who performed under the stage name "Booley Boo", reported the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Upon hearing of his death many took to Twitter, posting under the hashtag #RIPBooley:

University police and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) are handling the case, and in a statement released late Friday morning, GBI spokesman Scott Dutton said the shooting "appeared to be an isolated incident," according to CNN.

The investigaton is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
