McDreamy is heading to England! Ex "Grey's Anatomy" star Patrick Dempsey is in final negotiations to join the cast of the third Bridget Jones film, "Bridget Jones's Baby," according to Deadline. The casting news marks Dempsey's first role since he left the popular TV drama.

It is not certain what exact character Dempsey is going to play, but Hugh Grants absence leaves a spot open for romantic rival for Colin Firth's character, Mark Darcy, Bridget Jones' love interest. Both Firth and Jones herself, Renee Zellweger are set to return as is director Sharon Maguire, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film is based on Helen Fielding's third "Bridget Jones" novel. The book titled "Mad About The Boy" reveals that Firth's character died, but the third installment is reportedly based on creator Fielding columns and not her latest book.

Dempsey is known for his role as Dr. Derek Shepherd on "Grey's Anatomy" for 11 seasons on ABC before his character died. "I want to try something different," he told Entertainment Weekly at the time. "[But] is Derek so identifiable that I can't go on and be someone else?"

Production begins on "Bridget Jones's Baby" on Oct. 2 in the U.K.
