Actor Robert Pattinson skipped the screening of his new film at the Venice Film Festival in an attempt to avoid his ex-girlfriend, actress Kristen Stewart, Page Six reported. The former lovers and "Twilight" costars were both scheduled to promote new films at the Italian festival.

Pattinson's new film, the Brady Corbet-directed drama mystery "The Childhood of a Leader," was scheduled for a screening at the event and Pattinson was supposed to attend. But, he dropped out of the appearance, citing his busy schedule as the reason he couldn't show up.

Pattinson is currently in Ireland shooting the upcoming film "The Lost City of Z," but a source claimed that it was just an excuse.

"He didn't want the story to be all about how he and Kristen were nearly bumping into each other," a source told Page Six. "Venice is very small...and there are only so many parties and hotels."

But Pattinson also skipped the screening of his other film, "Life," at the Deauville American Film Festival on Monday, also due to his filming schedule, Gossip Cop reported. The site argued that Pattinson was telling the truth about busy schedule as the reason why he didn't attend the Venice Film Festival, not because he wanted to avoid Stewart.

Stewart and Pattinson dated for four years before calling it quits in 2013, according to the Daily Mail.

Stewart attended her scheduled appearance to promote her new film, "Equals," which is a remake of George Orwell's "1984" novel.
