Summer loving was not in the air during the hot months of 2015.  Many iconic couples called it quits and no couples were safe. From A-list actors to country music stars, here are the eight biggest celebrity breakups of summer 2015.

1. Charlize Theron and Sean Penn

Charlize Theron and Sean Penn called off their engagement in June after almost two years of dating. The split came as a shock given their lovey-dovey appearance together at the Cannes Film Festival in the South of France in May.

The Oscar-winning actress spoke to Elle UK about her relationship with Penn just a month before their June 2015 split. "Putting aside that he's my partner, he's the love of my life; for the first time, I felt that my work was really bleeding into my life and that made it hard," Charlize said. "There were moments where I was incredibly unfair to him. And moments where I felt like... he was incredibly unfair to me."

Penn did not seem too sad about the breakup. Shortly after he and Theron ended things, the actor was spotted out on a romantic dinner date with Emmanuelle Vaugier on Aug. 4, according to Us Weekly

2. Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck

After 10 years of marriage and three kids, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck announced they were divorcing on June 30. The two had one of the longest running relationships in Hollywood but sadly divorced just one day short of their 10-year wedding anniversary. In a joint statement, the two explained that while they were separating, they were still focused on their young children.

"After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time," their statement read. "This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding."

3. Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick

Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick were together since 2006 before they called it quits in early July. Kardashian had had enough after photos of Disick and his ex-girlfriend Chloe Bartoli surfaced of the two vacationing in Monte Carlo together. The two always had a rocky relationship in the past, but the pictures were the last straw for the "Keeping up with the Kardashians" star.

Disick and Kardashian were together on and off for nine years and had three children together, Mason 5, Penelope, 3, and Reign, seven months.

4. Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert

The world was shocked earlier this summer when country music's first couple announced their split. The surprise announcement came after four years of marriage. The couple first met in 2005 at CMT's 100 Greatest Duets Concert when Shelton was still married to his first wife, Kaynette Gern. He and Gern divorced the next year and he began dating Lambert shortly after. The couple married in 2011.

"This is not the future we envisioned," Lambert and Shelton said in a statement to the Associated Press. "And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter."

The couple's divorced was finalized hours after the statement was released.

5. Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale

After 20 years together and 13 years of marriage, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale announced that they were getting a divorce. The two met all the way back in 1995 when their bands No Doubt and Bush toured together.

"While the two of us have come to the mutual decision that we will no longer be partners in marriage, we remain partners in parenthood and are committed to jointly raising our three sons in a happy and healthy environment," they said in a joint statement, according to Us Weekly. "To that end, we respectfully request privacy from the media during this time."

6. Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards

After Zayn Malik left One Direction so he could concentrate on his personal life, the singer announced in August he had split from his fiancée Perrie Edwards. The couple first met on the set of "The X-Factor" in 2011 and began dating shortly after Edwards' band Little Mix won the talent competition. The couple got engaged in 2013 despite the fact they were constantly surrounded by cheating rumors.

Edwards was appearently "devastated" after the split, a source told People magazine.

7. Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog

The most beloved Muppets couple announced that they were calling it quits earlier this summer after nearly four decades together.

"Piggy and I have gone our separate ways, romantically," the star of ABC's fall show "The Muppets" revealed during a Television Critics Association panel for "The Muppets." "It can be tough to work with your ex," he added, "especially if your ex is a pig."

Rumor had it that the entire breakup was just a publicity stunt for "The Muppets" series premiere on Sept. 22. One can only hope.

Since their split Kermit and Miss Piggy seemed to have moved on. Less than a month after his split from the world's most famous pig, Kermit was spotted numerous times with a new pig named Denise and it seemed as though the two were already serious.

"He calls her his girlfriend," a source said of the couple to People magazine.

8. Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green

After more than a decade together, Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green decided to go their separate ways. The couple was together for 11 years, married for five and had two children together. The couple first split up in 2009 after Fox called off their three-year engagement. They soon worked things out and tied the knot in 2010 during a beach ceremony in Hawaii.

The split was amicable and the two were said to be seeking joint custody - physically and legally - of the couple's two sons, 2-year-old Noah and 18-month-old Bodhi. It was also reported that the couple did not sign a prenup.

"Megan and Brian have decided to separate," a source told People. "They will always love each other very much and are devoted to their kids. Anything could happen in the future, but for now they've decided it's best to take some time apart."
