Nicki Minaj wasn't joking when she confronted Miley Cyrus onstage during the live broadcast of the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night, according to MTV. Minaj called out Cyrus for recently talking smack about her in an interview with the New York Times, and apparently the beef between the two megastars is very real.

An MTV press spokesman confirmed that the exchange was real, according to MTV News, despite speculation that the beef was scripted for the cameras.

Minaj delivered a short speech while she accepted her award for Best Hip-Hop Video for her summer 2014 hit "Anaconda" then addressed Cyrus for making comments about her in a recent New York Times interview, HNGN previously reported.

"Now, back to this b---h that had a lot to say about me in the press the other day," Minaj said to Cyrus. "Miley what's good?"

Minaj's response comes after Cyrus commented on the Twitter feud between Minaj and Taylor Swift, as previously reported by HNGN. Cyrus gave her opinion on the exchange.

"What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj, is not too kind," Cyrus told the Times. "It's not very polite."

Minaj was upset with Cyrus' comments, according to Us Weekly, and chose to confront her.

"Nicki was livid with Miley and decided to air her feelings onstage," an insider told Us Weekly. "The anger was very real and not a pre-planned bit at all."

"It wasn't staged in any way and caught everyone by surprise," an MTV source told People. "After it happened, people made sure they didn't run into each other backstage because they weren't sure if there would be another confrontation."
