Miley Cyrus put on quite the show as the host of last night's MTV Video Music Awards, as we expected, but people couldn't help but wonder what her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, thinks of his daughter's carefree attitude.

Earlier this year, the 22-year-old singer came out as bisexual, but now she's redefining her sexuality as pansexual. She has dated both men and women and considers herself gender fluid. "I'm very open about it - I'm pansexual," she told Elle in the latest issue. "But I'm not in a relationship. I'm 22, I'm going on dates, but I change my style every two weeks, let alone who I'm with." She even told Paper Magazine in June that she is "literally open to every single thing that is consenting."

This led people to wonder how her family feels about this, and it turns out they have her back. "We've always been very open-minded," Billy Ray told E! News at the VMAs. "Listen, it's all about love and light. Forget the negativity and the haters. She's rocking and rolling and having a good time. What the world needs is love. There's too much hate...The world needs positive influences."

Billy Ray is just happy that Miley is OK and enjoying herself. "Even when she was a little girl, we told her, 'Hey, baby, do what you do and have fun doing it. Do it because you love it, not because you have to,'" he continued. "Seeing her happy is the greatest thing ever."

He was in the audience cheering Miley on last night alongside her mom Tish and her three siblings Braison, Noah and Brandi.
