"Game of Thrones" author George R. R. Martin said that he finally accepted the fact that the HBO TV show that is based on his book series will wrap up before he ever finishes the books.

Martin attended the Sasquan science fiction convention this week in Spokane, Wash., where he admitted that the critically acclaimed series could beat him to the finish. It was still unknown when the author's sixth book in the series, "The Winds of Winter," would be released, but Martin read a chapter from his next novel at the convention, reported Business Insider.

"Anything is possible," the author said when asked if he thought the show would finished before the books, reported GeekWire.

HBO's "Game of Thrones" recently finished its fifth season with many question unanswered. The fifth season is based off the fifth novel on the series, "A Dance with Dragons," which was also the last book Martin published. For the first time, viewers of the show were unaware what the future season held. Martin acknowledged the fast pace the show moved at.

"The show is moving forward like a locomotive, or sometimes a jet locomotive. They're writing 60-page scripts, I'm writing 1,500-page novels. So who the hell knows? There was a period where I was worried about that," the author said, according to The Huffington Post. "Then I said, to hell with that. Worrying about it isn't going to change it one way or another. I still sit down at the typewriter, and I have to write the next scene and the next sentence ... I'm just going to tell my story, and they're telling their story and adapting my books, and we shall see."
