An Indian police guard and a civilian were killed when suspected terrorists attacked a police post at a religious shrine in the Sopore town of Jammu and Kashmir state on Tuesday.

"Militants have attacked a police post guarding the shrine and a mosque in Tujjar Sharief area of Sopore (52 kms from here) by opening firing," a police officer said, according to The Hindu.

Police said the armed gunmen arrived on a motorbike and opened indiscriminate fire on policemen guarding a Sufi shrine in Tujjar village, reported Greater Kashmir.  A police constable, identified as Fayaz Ahmad, was killed in the attack.

A seventy year old disabled man, identified as Abdul Rahim Lone, was also killed the firing. "A 70-year-old man in a wheelchair also was shot and killed," a senior police officer Garib Das confirmed, according to Associated Press.

Indian army immediately launched an operation to trance the attackers. No group has claimed the responsibility for the attack.

Tuesday's terror attack is the second attack on a police post in troubled Jammu and Kashmir this month, reported Business Standrad. Two police officers were injured when a group of unidentified gunmen opened fire at Chanj police post in Udhampur.

The disputed region of Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan but both claimed it entirely.
