Eleven worshippers were injured Thursday in a grenade explosion outside a mosque in Shopian district of India's troubled Jammu & Kashmir state. A police officer said that the grenade explosion took place when Namazis (Muslim worshippers) were coming out of the mosque after offering dawn prayers, according to Greater Kashmir.

"The Nimazis discovered an inverted metallic tumbler in the mosque compound. When one of them tried to turn the tumbler straight, the grenade kept under it exploded," a senior police official said, according to IANS.

The explosive was placed under a container outside the Jama Masjid in Tranz area, 40 miles south of state capital Srinagar, police officials said, according to Focus News. Police also recovered a live grenade from the spot after the search operation.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Police officials said that the injured were rushed to district hospital and they are investigating the matter to trace the perpetrator, according to Hindustan Times.

The Jammu & Kashmir police also defused a grenade from the house of a militant in the Shopian district, located in southern part of Kashmir Valley, according to Greater Kashmir.  Four people were injured Wednesday when militants hurled a grenade at a petrol part in Shopian.
