Pakistan's Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Rashid Godil has suffered three bullet wounds after his car came under attack by two unidentified men on motorcycles in the Bahadurabad area of Karachi on Tuesday morning.

The MQM leader was on his way to party headquarters, Nine Zero, for a meeting with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman when the attackers opened fire on his vehicle. Godil suffered bullet wounds on his chest, head and arm, according to Dawn News.

Godil, as well as his driver, who was also critically wounded, was rushed to Liaquat National Hospital immediately after the attack. A police spokesperson released a statement about the incident. "Godil's driver, Abdul Mateen, succumbed to his injuries while the MQM leader is critically injured and being operated," he said, according to The Express Tribune.

"The incident happened at around 10:30 a.m.," he added.

The assassination attempt was condemned immediately, with Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah ordering IG Sindh police to initiate a full investigation and JUI-F's Jan Muhammad Khan Achakzai condemning the attack during his meeting with MQM leaders.

Fellow MQM leader Wasay Jalil, on the other hand, has asked the people of the nation to pray for the injured leader.

Rashid Godil has served as MQM's deputy parliamentary leader in the National Assembly, before a number of MQM's lawmakers rendered their resignation from the parliament.

The attempt at Godil's life stands as the latest in a number of assassination attempts in the country, with a recent attempt almost claiming the life of the president's son, as covered in this HNGN article.
