A Schnauzer/Poodle mix was once covered with long dirty fur. The dog looked like a mop rather than a pooch and was surviving by hunting rodents in a raisin company. Aside from that, he had a rope around his neck from abuse by a human.

When Krystal Rivera of Pinky Paws ResQ received a call from a neighbor who informed her of the condition of the dog dubbed Bob Marley, she immediately came to rescue him. Getting seven-year-old Bob was a challenge, because he didn't like people.

"I taped up my hands with towels and wore a big jacket because I knew he was going to bite," Rivera explained, according to Dogster. She added that Bob was very mean, which could be due to all the abuse he experienced from humans.

Once Rivera got Bob, she could smell some problems from his overgrown coat - the scent of infection. Rivera could tell that the dog was out on his own for around six months already.

Rivera said that if she didn't rescue Bob, he could have been euthanized because stray dogs in Fowler are laid to rest. And even if Bob lands in a nearby shelter in Fresno, he will still face a death sentence because of his anger issues.

"We had to muzzle him just to get him to the vet, and then they had to sedate him to shave him down to find out his gender," Rivera said who then took Bob from the vet for a behavior-modification program which he is still currently on.

Rivera entered Bob on the fourth annual Dirty Dog Contest and won a $5,000 grant courtesy of Wahl and GreaterGood.org.

"Now we're able to pay for a lot of our vet bills," explains Rivera, who currently pays 60 to 70 percent of the rescue's medical bills from her own pocket. The money will also pay for Bob's upcoming neutering, and for his ongoing behavior-modification training - which is going to take a while."

She also said that it will take a year to make sure that Bob will already be on his best behavior while being in his best look.
