Lupita Nyong'o is going from the big screen to the big stage in New York City.

The 32-year-old "12 Years a Slave" star will be making her stage debut in Danai Gurira's new drama, according to Deadline. The Oscar-winning actress will play "The Girl" in the NYC premiere of the play, "Eclipsed."

Zimbabwean-American playwright Guria, who also plays Michonne on "The Walking Dead," is co-author of "The Convert" and "In the Continuum." She's also working on a pilot show for HBO.

The play had previously been performed in Washington D.C. and New Haven, Conn., but it is new to the big city, according to Daily Mail. It focuses on a group of women who are the wives and prisoners of a rebel officer. Their already chaotic world is disturbed even more when a new woman, Nyong'o's character, arrives.

"Danai Gurira has written a brilliant play, ripped from the headlines, that looks at the terrible conflicts in post-colonial Africa with an eye that is both incisive and deeply compassionate," Public Theater artistic director Oskar Eustis said in a statement, according to E! News. "A feminist reading of the Liberian Civil War, a war that was ended by women, 'Eclipsed' is both heart-breaking and profoundly life-affirming. We are delighted to welcome the extraordinary Lupita Nyong'o to The Public in this vitally important play."

"Exciting news: I am getting back to the STAGE!" Nyong'o captioned a photo promoting the play. "This Fall, catch me at The Public Theater for my New York debut in Danai Gurira's play, ECLIPSED, directed by Liesl Tommy. SEPT 29th to NOV 8th."

"Eclipsed" will debut at the Public on Sept. 9 and will run until Nov. 9. There will be an official press opening on Oct. 14.
