In a new special look, the cast of FX's dark comedy series "Married" is proving what makes the show so funny – finding humor in even the darkest situations of parenthood and married life.

"It's about the sacrifices you make being in a long term relationship and having children ruin your life," Andrew Gurland, the show's creator and executive producer, said.

The show is centered on married couple and parents Russ (Nat Faxon, "Sex Tape") and Lina (Judy Greer, "Arrested Development") as they navigate their way through adulthood. In the second season, Russ and Lina experience changes in their respective careers and it affects their relationship. Russ also takes on a leadership role at a new job and has a hard time adjusting.

"As somebody who always wants to be liked, it's a difficult position," Faxon said of his character. "It's sort grappling with being in a management kind of position."

His character's wife Lina is hired a job as a teacher's aid and substitute teacher at their daughter's school.

"It's hard for her – she's like 'Who am I besides wife and a mom?,' " Greer explained.

One of Russ' best friends is AJ (Brett Gelman), an addict who is now sober and celibate in season two. He attracts the attention of new character Abby (Sarah Burns); the two share the same twisted view on the world.

The series may seem dark but Gelman said there's a lesson to be learned from "Married," and it's to look for the bright side in any situation.

"It takes what people might judge as negative aspects of life but says they're not that negative," Gelman said. "If you have love, you can get through anything, and I think that's really the message of the show. It's really positive."
