Steven R. McQueen has landed his first TV role since leaving "The Vampire Diaries." The 27-year-old actor has booked a recurring role on the fourth season of "Chicago Fire," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

McQueen will play Jimmy Borelli, a new candidate at Firehouse 51. His character will make a "dramatic entrance on his first day at work that does not sit well with Chief Boden," played by actor Eamonn Walker. The show also stars Taylor Kinney, Jesse Spencer, Monica Raymund and Charlie Barnett.

"Chicago's Fire" executive producer Danielle Gelber broke the news on Twitter, posting a photo of herself with the actor, adding the caption, "Newest addition to #ChicagoFire. Welcome to the family! @McQueeninchains #season4."

This is McQueen's first television role since he left "The Vampire Diaries" in the middle of season six. McQueen played Jeremy Gilbert, the little brother to main character Elena, since the series began in 2009.

Some fans might be shocked that the actor chose to get involved in a TV drama since he has been campaigning his desire to be a part of CW's "Arrow." McQueen tweeted the show's writers about guest starring on the show as Nightwing, a superhero in the DC Comics universe.

"I started tweeting the 'Arrow' writer's room and I was like, 'You should be me to guest star as Nightwing. I wrote them jokingly and they ended up tweeting casting," McQueen explained to E! News. "So I am putting that energy in the universe! It's on camera now, it's gotta happen!"

"Chicago Fire" returns on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 10 p.m. on NBC.
