New York police are looking for a suspect in a wheelchair who is on the run after robbing a bank of $1,200.

The bank robber approached a teller with a note demanding money at the Santander bank in Queens, N.Y. on Monday afternoon, according to The New York Post.

The bank employee handed over approximately $1,200 in cash to the crook, who scurried out of the bank in his wheelchair. Security cameras revealed that the suspect, believed to be in his late 20's, left the bank wearing a grey hoodie and jeans, according to The Huffington Post.

The robber told the teller that he was carrying a gun but never actually pulled out the weapon, authorities said. The apparently wheelchair-bound thief was too fast for the police and was already out of sight by the time NYPD helicopters were in the air.

Police are trying to determine whether or not the crook was actually handicapped. According to local store owner Juan Arenas, police officers found the wheelchair a few blocks away, NBC News New York reported.

"I think it was more of a prop. They kept saying they found the wheelchair somewhere nearby," Arenas said.
