If you've decided to take your four-legged best friend to work today, that's great! Certain studies show that businesses that allow pets have happier and healthier employees, according to the ASPCA, and you might even nudge your coworkers toward animal adoption.

Here are some tips from the ASPCA to make Take Your Dog To Work Day a success.

Dog-Proof Your Cubical Or Office:

Don't let your furry friend succumb to temptation around all those wires. Stash cords and wires, potentially toxic plants or office supplies like permanent markers that look fun to chomp on. And keep your garbage can clear of lunch leftovers or you'll have a poodle in your trash can.

Your Chihuahua Should Be Miss Manners:

Your dog might be really cute and have an adorable outfit, but if she doesn't stop barking, the goodwill toward your fur-baby will wear off really fast. Bone up on training before you take her to the job. "Sit," "Stay" and "Come" are good ones to know.

Be Prepared:

Bring your dog's food, bowls for food and water, leash, chew toys and treats. If you plan on being away from your office buddy for any amount of time, consider using a baby gate at your office door or a playpen-style "fence" to section off your dog's area.

The Best Part Of The Day Is Break Time:

Give your dog a break from the 9-to-5 grind. A few 10-minute breaks for fresh air and exercise (and bathroom breaks) will keep your dog from getting antsy. Have lunch at a pet-friendly spot and invite your other coworkers and their dogs if your dog enjoys making new canine pals.

Avoid Sick Days:

As a courtesy to your coworker's fur-babies, make sure yours is up-to-date on vaccines before exposing him to the corporate world.
