Oklahoma City resident Jack Damrill was woken up in the middle of the night by their 160-pound Saint Bernard, Doree. She was being restless and would not let Jack go to sleep. When Doree wouldn't calm down, and the family's cat also started behaving oddly, it was only then that Jack understood there was danger.

"She continued to whine a little bit. The cats were meowing at the same time. Looking back on it, I remember the cats meowing very loud," Jack said, according to AOL.

The gas had been leaking and Doree and the cat could smell it before the humans could, according to Woman's Day. When Jack went to the kitchen to check, he saw that one of the burners on the stove was left opened all throughout the evening. He immediately called 911 and help came before the situation got worse.

"The firefighters were talking and they said, 'Well, the worst-case scenario is your house could have been ended up in match boxes across the street. Which means, it would have blown up," said Jack.

Jack couldn't help but be grateful to their Doree for alerting them.

"We're very faithful people. We believe in Christ and we believe He does a lot in our life and we believe He acted to save our life last night by allowing this dog to use its sense of smell to alert us to what could have been a tragedy in this house blowing up." Jack said.

For her vigilance, her master said that Doree will receive a "big old steak," which she definitely deserves.
