Latest reports confirmed that President Donald Trump just announced his intention to nominate former Utah governor Jon Huntsman to become the US ambassador to Russia. This announcement came amidst the ongoing investigations into Russian alleged involvement in the 2016 elections and possible contacts between Trump campaign and Russian officials.

If this will push through, CNBC reported that the former 2012 GOP presidential candidate will be taking a very high-profile position despite the current probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election and the possible contacts between the Trump campaign and Russian officials. It can be recalled that Trump Jr. is currently in the mile of controversy after it was reported that he received an email coming from a Russian official.

In the report involving Trump Jr., it was said that he received an email containing pieces of information which were deemed detrimental to Hillary Clinton. Though it was reported too that the said email would not directly support the candidacy of Donald Trump, most people think that is the case.

It can be recalled that at the recently concluded G20 summit held in Hamburg, Germany this month, President Donald Trump had an undisclosed conversation with the Russian President Vladimir Putin. After the said conversation, the White House made the announcement that Trump has the intention to have Huntsman as the US ambassador to Russia.

Jon Huntsman has twice served as an ambassador and he was even considered as US top's diplomat to Singapore during the administration of George HW Bush. After that, he also served the same role in China under the administration n of Barack Obama then he returned to the US to try his luck for the presidency.

It was also reported that Huntsman was also considered before to be Donald Trump's secretary of state but the position went to Tillerson. But during the campaign last year, Huntsman had an up-and-down relationship with Donald Trump.

Jon Huntsman also became very slow to endorse any candidate for the Republican nomination but he supported Trump in the end when the latter became the presumptive nominee. In fact, the two set aside their differences when Trump became the president.
