The EU DSA (Digital Services Act) is now targeting the three largest adult websites. This means that Pornhub, Stripchat, and Xideos could face stricter regulations from the European Union.
In April, EU officials announced that it was adding 17 VLOPs (very large online platforms) and two VLOSE (very large online search engines) under DSA.

This initial DSA list didn't include Pornhub and other adult content websites. Now, the EU decided to change this situation by designating the three mentioned porn websites.
EU's DSA Targets Three Largest Adult Websites!
Based on statistics, Xvideos is the most visited adult website; taking the number one spot among the three largest porn online sites. Meanwhile, Pornhub is the 2nd most visited website.
The European Union analyzed the users of Xvideos, Pornhub, and Stripchat. Based on their assessment, these adult content platforms have at least 45 million monthly users across EU countries.
Because of this, they are now considered as VLOPs. Since this is the case, EU officials decided to add Pornhub, Xvideos, and Stripchat to the DSA list.
"Today's designations follow a first set of designation decisions of 19 Very Large Online Platforms and Search Engines on 25 April 2023, of which the Commission published the non-confidential versions today," said the Europian Union via its official press release.
The European Commission said that since these three large adult websites are now under DSA, it will be the one responsible for supervising them. The Commission added that the Digital Services Coordinators of the Member States will help it supervise Pornhub, Xvideos, and Stripchat.
"The Commission services will carefully monitor the compliance with the DSA obligations by these platforms, especially concerning the measures to protect minors from harmful content and to address the dissemination of illegal content," said the European Commission.

What Pornhub, Xvideos, Stripchat Could Face

According to BBC News, the EU will give Pornhub, Stripchat, and Xvideos four months to ensure that they can meet the following legal requirements below:
- Stronger protection features that can prevent children from accessing them, such as additional age verification tools.
- Extra safety measures can prevent the spread of illegal content, such as deepfake porn videos and child sexual abuse material.
- Ensures that compliance with all DSA obligations and their risk assessments are independently and externally audited.
The EU Commission said that if these adult websites can't comply with the requirements, they could face up to 6% of their global turnover.
