A group of eagles that got their feet stuck together when flying through the air in Michigan on Wednesday were saved by Dave Shield, who happened to be trekking along and noticed the feathered vertebrae in a trench along the side of the road, according to MLive.com.

"Sometimes, this ends in death," said Sue Stamy, director of the Braveheart Raptor Rehabilitation Center. Stamy was reportedly called to assist Michigan Department of Natural Resources officials in untangling the eagles.

"They were stressed; they were shocked," she said. "I'm sure of that."

Stamy also told MLive.com that she has never had to involve herself in anything like what happened to the birds in the entirety of her career.

"This is the first time in my 24 years of this work that I've had to deal with a territorial dispute," Stamy said. "I'm glad they don't have severe injuries that could have affected them down the line."

A similar incident occurred in January, when two eagles were found in a tree in Baltimore tangled together by their talons, the Baltimore Sun reported.
