If you browsed Twitter this weekend, you might have seen a few of these:

Square dogs. Well, the dogs aren't square, but their hair is cut into geometric shapes. Square doggy 'dos are reportedly the rage in Japan and the trend is sneaking its way into American kennels, albeit very slowly.

Olga Zabelinskaya runs a grooming salon in New Jersey and is the publisher of a magazine called "Modern Styles Around the World," and she is a fan of quirkier styles:

However, Zabelinskaya is not 100 percent sold on the square look. Why? Because the cut is "not practical," Zabelinskaya told Huffington Post. Just like a human hair work of art, these avant-garde styles require tons of upkeep, which includes gels and sprays. "In a couple of days, they're going to look like a mess," Zabelinskaya said.

So if your dog's pizazz isn't matching your own, what cut does Zabelinskaya suggest? The circle cut:

"American customers are more conservative," Zabelinskaya said.

Riza Wisnom is a pet stylist from Maryland who writes and teaches about Asian-style dog grooming. Her style is apparent right away when you click the cover photo on her Facebook page:

Wisnom told Huffington Post that looking canine cool takes a certain amount of bravery. "A dog cannot be ashamed of his style nor proud of it, either," she said. "What they like is the attention we shower on them during the cut and/or color process. But that's nothing compared to the attention they get when trotting out in public with an amazing new 'do."
