Maryland resident Kelly Mayhew, 34, died after receiving silicon injections for a butt-lift and enlargement procedure in a Queens, New York, basement. The unlicensed 'doctor' who performed the procedure fled the crime scene, police said on Tuesday, the New York Daily News reported.

Mayhew along with her mother drove up to a house in Queens on Saturday afternoon to meet with a woman she was meeting through a mutual friend. The woman allegedly gave Mayhew silicone injections in her butt; during the procedure, however, Mayhew began having difficulty breathing, the victim's mother told authorities, according to Daily Mail.

The victim's mother then performed CPR on her dying daughter and asked the 'doctor' to call 911. Instead the woman fled the scene in a gray SUV.

Police responded to the 911 call made but found Mayhew unresponsive. She was taken to St John's Hospital, where she was declared dead.

Mayhew's mother also tried to contact the friend who had set up the appointment with the facilitator but could not reach her. The individual was later reported to have wiped her social media account clean, according to sources.

Police officials are working together with the local medical examiner's office to determine the cause of Mayhew's death. Detectives have taken samples of the material recovered from the needles, which may have contained silicone. This was Mayhew's fifth cosmetic procedure, according to her mother, reported WABC.

"Following the examination, we are doing additional studies and also await the police investigation," said Julie Bolcer, a representative of the city medical examiner's office.
